Bonjour,

Sorry but my French is not good enough so I'll write in English. I understand French so you may reply in French.

I am a novel bike rider in Belgium and I am thinking about getting a Royal Enfield. Howvere I am not sre if I want to spend 6000 EUR on a Classic bullet.

A few questions:

1. I have seen some adverts on Ebay from a company called "Export Connection" that restores old Enfields in India and send them to Europe. Are they reliable? Any experience or heard anything about them?

2. Any places in Belgium were I could get a second hand and in a decent state Enfield (no major problems)?

3. How difficult is to import an Enfield form the UK into Belgium. Is it difficult or possible to register it Belgium?

4. any tips/ideas. BAsically I have been dreaming about having an Enfield for years now and I would like to get one but without investing a lot of money on my first bike. Any ideas as to ho to get a not too expensive Enfiled (second hand if necessary) but without nasty surprises?

Thanks,

Martin

Hi Martin,
You can see my small experience with Export Connection here. One thing: be patient...

For me it was a success. Good luck! :)

I don't agree. It depend of what you want to buy. If you want a side-car not expansive and to not spend too much money, Export Connection is a good way.

Merci Jean Luc, Jean Philippe et al.

Jean Luc, interesting and helpful blog!

Any alternatives in Europe? I would rather drive to the UK, France, Germany, etc and pick up a second hand Enfield that I can test ride. No need to be a restorated classic - I am not a purist :)

Any ideas/advise welcome!

Hi Martin,

I am English , but live in the Limousin region of France.

I have just imported from the u.k. a 12/2008 350 Bullet Classic( 750 kms) and had it delivered to my door by 'Bike Movers U.K.' for just under £2500 for the whole deal. I bought it through an ebay connection. I suggest you look through the U.K. dealer sites which you will find through the Watson Squire importers site http://www.Royal-Enfield.com There are some good deals about.

Importing a new or nearly new bike from the U.k. should be straightforward to re-register in Belgium, as the European certificate of conformity number is shown on the English registration document.

Direct Imports from India could be a problem to register , as they do not conform to the latest (2009) emission control standards. They are genuine rebuilt classics to new condition. I considered one myself, but the amount of work needed to comply was costly. I am sure that the quality of restoration is acceptable as they are all rebuilt from genuine parts, but they will arrive with an Indian registration number, NOT as an unregistered machine, and that is where the problems start.!

Hope this helps a bit!

It is only rentable to import a side-car from India, and the papers should be 30 years old,for French collection papers.
I don't know the law in Belgium.
A solo,as say Pongo,is cheaper in Europa(and are registrable models).
Salut Pongo,i know that you exist because my friend Dan saw you few days ago..
